Petition calls for maternity improvements

1 min read Early Years Health
A national network of parents has launched a petition demanding improvements in maternity services.

Netmums’ petition calls on the government to implement in full the recommendations of the recent Safer Childbirth report put together by a coalition of royal colleges, including the Royal College of Midwives.

One of the recommendations in the report was ensuring women in labour received one-to-one care from a midwife.

“We come across many mums who have been traumatized at the birth of their child, and very sadly, a few who have lost children, sometimes as a result of mistakes that have been made,” said Sally Russell, co-founder of Netmums.

“We want to see the government making sure all hospitals and birth centres have enough well-trained staff to make every woman’s experience of birth as good as it can be.”
