
The scheme, which is the brainchild of Labour MP Graham Allen, will see a group of 10 PCCs given access to early intervention experts, who will provide the new commissioners with advice and guidance on how best to prevent youth offending.
Allen, a government adviser on early intervention, told CYP Now that he has sent letters to all 41 PCCs inviting those interested to take part in the group, following preliminary discussions with Home Office minister Jeremy Browne.
It is hoped the group will showcase the benefits of investing PCC budgets in early intervention, and encourage others to follow suit. The scheme was mentioned during a debate on the role of PCCs in early intervention in parliament last week.
