Parents must act to tackle obesity, says 'fat camp' head

Health
Parents need to take a more active role in tackling childhood obesity, according to the head of a weight-loss summer camp.

Rather than simply sending their overweight children off to "fat camps" and expecting them to come back fit and healthy, mothers and fathers need to take more responsibility themselves, he argued.

Stephen Cole, managing director of Peak District-based FitJuniors, said: "At FitJuniors, parents are required to take part in a day of workshops, which detail the three elements of keeping fit - nutrition, exercise and behaviour change."

Experts have warned that if no action is taken to tackle the problem now, 90 percent of today's children will be obese by 2050.
