'Outstanding' councils among recipients of £11m in DfE innovation cash

1 min read Social Care
A total of 19 children's services departments, including two rated as "outstanding" by Ofsted, will share £11m from the Department for Education's social care innovation fund this year, it has been announced.

The cash brings the total awarded under the scheme in 2016/17 to £22m, after Education Secretary Justine Greening last month announced £11m of funding for the three initiatives considered to have been the most successful to emerge from previous rounds of funding.

Of the funding announced today, Islington Council has received the largest amount at £2m. Meanwhile, Bradford Council has been awarded £1.6m, Lincolnshire Council receives £1.5m and North Yorkshire Council gets £1.4m.

The tri-borough councils get a total of £1.95m, with Hammersmith & Fulham Council getting £787,000 and Kensington and Chelsea Council and Westminster Council - so far the only two councils to be rated "outstanding" for their children's services by Ofsted under the single inspection framework - getting £495,000 and £667,000 respectively.
