Ofsted slams residential home for locking up children

A residential care home where children were locked in their rooms and staff shouted at each other has been judged "inadequate" by Ofsted.

During a visit in July inspectors found that there were "serious and widespread failures" that meant children and young people were not protected, and their care and experiences were poor.

The report into the Huddersfield-based home, which is run by private firm Harmony Children's Services, found that when one young person was upset "others are on occasion locked in their bedrooms until it is calm".

"As a result some children and young people's behaviours are significantly impacting on others," the report states.

"They feel they are prevented from moving around their home, due to others' negative behaviour.
