
From this year the inspectorate is required to disclose how many whistleblowing reports it receives from those working in children's services.
From April 2017 to the end of March 2018 Ofsted received 271 reports where there was a serious concern, such as a child being left at risk of harm.
The sector with the highest number of reports - 176 - over the period was residential children's care, while 78 related to local authority children's services and 10 involved independent fostering agencies.
Of the reports, 42 involved child safety concerns and in 23 cases Ofsted referred the matter onto a council child protection team.
