Ofsted praises 'outstanding' council's 'thriving' social work environment

A council praised for its “relentless commitment” to improving children’s services has been handed the highest rating by Ofsted.

North Tyneside Council was recognised by the inspectorate for creating an environment in which social work is “thriving”, leading to an "outstanding" rating for the overall effectiveness of its children’s services.

The council received the rating across all areas inspected between 9 and 13 March with the exception of services to support children in care and care leavers, which received a “good” rating.

The inspection revealed few vacancies within children’s services with low staff turnover and at the time of the visit, no agency social workers employed by the council.

Inspectors said senior leaders were “outward-looking” and “open to challenge” forming strategic partnerships that were well developed and highly effective.
