Northern Irish set out GCSE aims

Education
The Northern Ireland Executive has laid out plans to raise the number of students gaining at least five GCSEs.

First minister Ian Paisley and deputy first minister Martin McGuinness have outlined their three year Programme for Government.

It sets out the executive’s priorities and goals for the next three years, including ensuring that 68 per cent of school leavers achieve at least five GCSEs at grade C or above, and reducing the number of children killed on the roads by 50 per cent by 2012.

McGuinness said: "By working together the executive can begin to build a peaceful fair and prosperous society for everyone."
