The Preparing for Success strategy, which follows a consultation in 2007, emphasises the importance of young people being able to access careers guidance at an early age and commits to recruiting more advisers for year 10 pupils, following curriculum reforms.
All careers advisers in Northern Ireland are to receive training on working with vulnerable young people, and the Northern Ireland Careers Service will develop a package of support to help parents support their children with careers advice. The Northern Ireland Executive is looking into the effectiveness of careers resource centres to deliver advice and guidance, and will also consider making services available through extended schools, libraries and colleges.
