NHS watchdog raises concerns about midwife shortages

A third of maternity units in the South East of England have fewer midwives than they need to cope with the number of local births, a report by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) has found.

The commission’s first quarterly "market report", an analysis of its inspections across England, features a section focussed on maternity services.
