New chair named for looked-after children group

Helen Southworth, Labour MP for Warrington, is set to become the new chair of the Associate Parliamentary Group for Looked After Children and Care Leavers.

Following his appointment as junior energy and climate change minister on 9 June, David Kidney relinquished his role as chair of the group, a position he has held for three and a half year.

Confirmation of Southworth's new role will be made at the next meeting of the group in July.

Addressing children, young people and voluntary organisations at a meeting of the group this week, Southworth said: "I am looking forward to hearing what you have to say and I will be making sure that the government hear those messages and do something about it."
