NEET young people worst affected by work and money worries, survey finds

Young people not in education, employment or training (NEET) are more likely than their peers to feel as if they will fail in life, research from the Prince’s Trust has revealed.

In its latest report, the organisation finds that more than a third of young people no longer feel in control of their future.

It adds that more than a quarter feel as if they will fail in life, with the figure rising to 38 per cent among those classed as NEET or from poorer backgrounds.

The Prince’s Trust NatWest Youth Index 2024 also shows that one in five young people have missed school or work in the past year due to their mental health.

The index, based on a YouGov survey of 16- to 25-year-olds across the UK, aims to gauge the health and happiness of young people.
