The youth programme, launched by former Prime Minister David Cameron in 2011, was due to see up to 100,000 16- and 17-year-olds embark on residential group activities, followed by community volunteering, in October.

However, the NCS Trust, which runs the service, has said the programme will be adapted to “to bring the experience to life without the nights away.”

A statement from the NCS added that it was “working with its partners to help develop

an innovative new approach to the autumn offering”.

It comes following the cancellation of the organisation's summer programme due to the pandemic.
