National centre for CSE research to launch

A national centre of expertise to improve the way police respond to child sexual exploitation (CSE) will be established, it has been announced.

The College of Policing has awarded the University of Bedfordshire more than £500,000 to establish the centre from its Police Knowledge Fund.

The centre will seek to ensure there is a research-informed, enhanced police response to young people affected by CSE and other forms of child sexual abuse.

It will work with the national policing lead for child protection and abuse investigation, and a network of regional police co-ordinators, as well as leading children’s charities and Public Health England, to improve both understanding and practice of this issue on the frontline.

Simon Bailey, national policing lead for child protection and abuse investigation said tackling the threat of CSE is one of the police’s “greatest challenges”.
