The inquiry will feed into the Independent Review of Children’s Social Care, the APPG has said.

It is set to launch with an online evidence gathering session focussing on the West Midlands.

Care-experienced young people and adults, carers, professionals, and others with an interest in improving the care system are asked to attend the session to share their experiences of England’s children’s social care system.

The event will be hosted by chair of the APPG Steve McCabe MP and co-ordinated by national looked-after children and care leavers charity Become which acts as secretariat for the group.

The inquiry is the latest in a series of reviews of the children’s social care system in England launched this year which include the Competition and Markets Authority investigation into the children’s social care market and the new Children’s Commission launched by the children’s commissioner for England.

Steve McCabe MP, chair of the APPG for looked-after children and care leavers, said: “Through the spotlight inquiry, we want to find out more about how care-experienced young people can feel connected to communities that matter to them – such as where they’re living, where they grow up, or based on part of their identity that’s important to them, such as their care experience.

“We often talk about the ‘care system’ but we know that care looks and feels very different depending on where in the country you are, so our series of regional sessions – starting this evening in the West Midlands – are a vital part of understanding the link between care and community.”

Become will be live-tweeting the event using the hashtag #APPGCare
