MPs call for ban on Asbos for under 18s

Youth Justice
An amendment to ban courts from giving antisocial behaviour orders to under 18s is due to be heard in Parliament.

Two Labour backbenchers have called for an amendment to the Criminal Justice and Immigration Bill that would mean young people can only be given an order if they committed antisocial behaviour alongside an adult.

John McDonnell, the MP for Hayes and Harlington, and Neil Gerrard, the MP for Walthamstow, want to amend the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 to stop courts issuing the orders to under 18s individually.

The Criminal Justice and Immigration Bill is due to be debated in the House of Commons on Wednesday (9 January).
