Morgan announces careers advice body for schools

1 min read Education Careers Guidance
The Department for Education is to establish a careers advice company in a bid to improve the quality of guidance services in schools and colleges, Education Secretary Nicky Morgan has announced.

The new independent body will broker relationships between employers and schools and colleges, and will work closely with the National Careers Service.

The aim of the company will be to help 12- to 18-year-olds have greater access to high-quality careers advice and for them to be mentored by local employers.

Christine Hodgson, currently chair of business consultancy organisation Capgemini UK, is to lead the company when it launches in spring 2015 following a £5m investment by government.

Morgan’s announcement comes eight months after the DfE placed an additional legal duty on schools requiring them to secure independent careers advice for all 13- to 18-year-olds.
