Minister hints at early years workforce strategy delay

1 min read Early Years
The government's strategy to improve the quality of the early years workforce is likely to be delayed, early years minister Caroline Dinenage has suggested.

Responding to a question about government plans in the area on social network site Twitter, Dinenage said getting the strategy right is "more vital than speed".

Her comments appear to contradict statements made by former childcare minister Sam Gyimah, who, speaking in parliament in July, said a workforce strategy would be launched before the end of the year.

In her tweet, Dinenage said the government received more than 4,000 responses to a consultation on whether to scrap controversial qualification requirements for childcare apprentices, the results of which are due to inform the wider workforce strategy.

.@JuneOSullivan consultation only just finished, 4000+ replies to read & wildly different views. Getting this right more vital than speed!
