
Writing on the charity’s website, Jacob Diggle, chief impact officer at UK Youth, said the upcoming Spending Review and National Youth Strategy “must be a turning point” for youth work following 15 years of funding cuts which have decimated youth services and the workforce.
The Spending Review, which takes place on 11 June, sets department spending plans for the next three years, while the National Youth Strategy, launched by Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy last November will outline the government’s key policy aims for the sector when it is published in the summer.
Diggle said: “At a time when young people are facing unprecedented challenges, the government is still failing to fund the solutions that work. Youth work isn’t a ‘nice to have’ – it’s essential.
