London's first regional adoption agency launches as approvals fall by a quarter

2 mins read Social Care
London's first regional adoption agency (RAA) launched this week, as the latest data shows a 27 per cent year-on-year drop in the number of approved adopters in the capital.

The creation of the new RAA, Coram Ambitious for Adoption, is part of the government's ongoing drive to introduce RAAs across England.

It aims to simplify the adoption process and ensure that the voluntary sector and local authorities are collaborating as effectively as possible to speed up matching of children and approved adopters.

Nadhim Zahawi, children and families minister, said that more than half of all councils in England are now delivering adoption services via RAAs, and welcomed London's first.

The agency will provide adoption services for several local authorities across Greater London, starting with Harrow, Redbridge and The City of London.

It will be followed in the coming weeks by others including Bromley, Waltham Forest and Slough Children's Services Trust.
