London mayor's resettlement scheme suffers further delay

A provider for a major young offender resettlement scheme has yet to be appointed more than a year after the scheduled launch date, CYP Now has learned.

The “pan-London” resettlement scheme, part of London mayor Boris Johnson’s Youth Programme, had been due to launch in September 2012 after being announced six months previously.

Crime reduction charity Nacro was appointed in January, four months after the scheduled start date, to deliver resettlement provision for two of the three contract areas of London (22 boroughs covering west London and central).

But CYP Now has learned that a provider for north and east London, made up of a further 11 London boroughs, is still yet to be appointed.

Contracts for all three areas were tendered at the same time in February 2012, but a spokeswoman for the mayor’s office said the contract was put out to tender a second time in January 2013.
