
Speaking at a fringe event at the Liberal Democrat conference, Baroness Claire Tyler said the scale of the Working Families Everywhere programme poses a number of questions.
She said it is not yet clear how the intensive support will be delivered and how the families are going to be identified. Tyler added that a focus on getting people back into work alone is not going to solve the complex problems many of these families are facing.
"While a very strong focus on people getting back into work is hugely important, there are also all the issues around substance abuse, mental health problems, substandard housing and dysfunctional relationships," she said. "How are these people going to be identified? There is a lot of hidden need like undisclosed domestic violence and people who are already in work but very low-paid work.
