Less than a third of serious case reviews inadequate

1 min read Social Care
Under a third of serious case reviews undertaken by local safeguarding children's boards are inadequate, the latest evaluation has revealed.

Figures published by Ofsted show 29 per cent of the 329 reviews evaluated between July 2007 and December 2009 were inadequate.

42 per cent of the reviews were judged by inspectors to be adequate and 29 per cent good were rated good.

John Goldup, Ofsted's director of development for social care, said the quality of reviews has improved steadily since 2007, the year in which the watchdog became responsible for evaluating cases.

In 2007/08 40 per cent were found to be inadequate. But in the first nine months of 2009/10, that figure dropped to 17 per cent.

In the last quarter only two out of 28 reviews were judged as inadequate.
