Labour commits to moving youth policy back to DfE

1 min read Youth Work
Shadow education minister Rushanara Ali has confirmed that youth policy would return to the Department for Education should Labour win the next general election.

In a reply to a question on the issue from the audience at a joint National Youth Agency (NYA) and Local Government Association (LGA) conference this week Ali said that the DfE was the best place for the youth portfolio.

Ali said: "We think that it is right that the DfE take the lead on youth policy and closely work with other departments such as the Cabinet Office, due to its role with the third sector, as well as the Department for Local Government and Communities and its role with councils. This makes sense to ensure that that there are good opportunities for young people both when they are in school and outside of school."
