
Youth justice workers in the borough have “an in-depth understanding of the issues and challenges” facing children in the youth justice system,” according to probation inspectors, who visited in September last year.
They noted an “excellent use” of national and local data to shape their decisions around services.
Diversity in staff recruitment, to ensure the service is reflective of the borough’s population was another positive characteristic highlighted by inspectors.
Currently half the borough’s population are black or minority ethnic, half are female and 12.5 per cent of people have a disability. In addition, nine per cent are LGBTQ+.
“Both staff and managers are child-centred and know their children well, with an evident collaborative approach in which practitioners share their expertise to upskill each other,” said inspectors in their report.
