Highland Council was the first area to pilot the Scottish government's Getting it Right for Every Child initiative. Launched in 2006, the initiative aims to open up communication between all agencies working with children and young people.
Research from the pathfinder scheme in Highland, conducted by Edinburgh University, shows that it has produced particularly positive results for children from troubled homes.
The results were based on a random sample of 97 children who took part in the scheme. They showed improvements in two-thirds of cases. The scheme has improved the quality of information shared and collected, enabling families to avoid repeating their stories to different services. Earlier and more appropriate intervention has also seen the rate of children being placed on the child protection register fall by half.
