Inspectors criticise geography education

Geography lessons in schools are not doing enough to help children find their feet as global citizens of the 21st century, according Ofsted.

In a report, Geography in schools - changing practice, the education watchdog finds that many children think geography is boring and irrelevant and that a lack of curriculum time and health and safety worries mean the amount of fieldwork carried out is limited in many schools, despite evidence that it helps motivate pupils.

The report recommends that local authorities should encourage the development of networks of schools, to share and develop good practice in the subject.
