In the new edition of CYP Now: School readiness special; new children's minister interview; journey of an asylum-seeking child

1 min read
The August edition of CYP Now takes an in-depth look at how schools and early years providers are working together to ease the transition of children into education and narrow the attainment gap.

In addition to summarising key policy and research in early learning and school readiness, the special report includes practice examples on: school "speed-dating" events at a nursery; the creation of school readiness packs; co-ordinated childcare and schools policies in an academy trust; and better information sharing across a local authority.

The main feature charts the 12 stages of a typical journey for an unaccompanied asylum-seeking child coming to the UK, and speaks to the professionals they may encounter as they navigate the health, social care and legal systems.
