Guides to support mentoring projects for young offenders

Charity Clinks has published four guides to support organisations providing mentoring and befriending projects for offenders and ex-offenders, including young offenders.

The free guides, covering setting up a project, managing volunteers, demonstrating effectiveness and quality standards, contain information on the youth justice system, and case studies of successful projects such as a Sheffield mentoring project that works with five- to 16-year-olds who are at risk of offending or exclusion.

The guides are funded by the Ministry of Justice and have been developed in partnership with Volunteering England, Charities Evaluation Services, and the Mentoring and Befriending Foundation.

Nathan Dick, project leader of Clinks Volunteering and Mentoring Network, said: "These guides will help offenders to get their lives back on track. We are very proud of the product we're launching today and hope to see volunteering and mentoring services for offenders flourish as a result."

Clinks plans to produce more guides in the future.
