Its sibling sexual abuse and behaviour guide has been published as the issue can make professionals “particularly uncomfortable, which may lead them to minimising the seriousness of behaviour”, according to the centre.

“Professionals working with children need to be equipped to support and help young people who are experiencing sexual behaviour and abuse from their siblings, throughout their career," the CSA Centre added.

“Yet despite having the core skills to respond, many professionals report a lack of knowledge or experience to feel confident in doing so effectively.”

The guidance includes advice on identifying and understanding sibling sexual behaviour as well as responding to incidents.
