Government to enable community organisations to provide more mental health support

1 min read Health Mental health
A consortium led by the charity YoungMinds is to run a £3m government programme to build the capacity of the voluntary sector in offering early intervention mental health services to young people.

The Bond (Better Outcomes, New Delivery) Consortium will work with 2,000 schools, 500 voluntary and community sector organisations and 100 NHS and local authority commissioners, to develop long-term solutions to increasing mental health support for children.

As part of this, Bond will develop nationally recognised quality standards and accreditation for voluntary and community sector providers of mental health support.

The consortium will also provide services including guidance and training for commissioners and a searchable online map of voluntary organisations providing early intervention mental health support.

Sarah Brennan, chief executive of Young Minds, said the voluntary sector must develop its ability to offer comprehensive services to children and young people in order to build the confidence of commissioners.
