Government makes free childcare more flexible

1 min read Early Years
The government has made its free childcare offer more flexible as parents will be able to stretch provision over more than 38 weeks a year.

The commitment was made in  Next Steps for Early Learning and Childcare, which was published this morning. The aim is to allow parents to cover holidays and keep costs constant, helping them to budget.

Ministers also promised to create a national price comparison website for childcare and a scheme to attract top graduates to the early years workforce. The strategy builds on 2004's ten-year childcare strategy.

Authorities will now be expected to produce action plans to ensure that they are setting out exactly how they intend to secure sufficient childcare in their area. Research published by the Daycare Trust today shows that insufficient childcare is still a major concern among parents.
