The Education Secretary wants to bring back a "Dangerous Book for Boys" culture and says parents are frustrated when children’s activities are limited by health and safety rules, and that teachers are too risk-averse over school trips and adventurous activities.
Lord Young of Graffham, the former cabinet minister, is currently reviewing all health and safety laws for the coalition government.
Gove said the government will reduce red tape in schools and try and tackle the compensation culture among parents.
Some teachers have complained that activities can require health and safety assessments up to 100 pages long and claim they have been advised to avoid organising trips as accidents could result in legal or disciplinary action.
