Glebe House care home closes permanently following safeguarding concerns

A specialist care home and school which supported boys with a history of harmful sexual behaviour has permanently closed after numerous concerns around its safeguarding practices and management.

Trustees of Friends Therapeutic Community Trust, which runs Cambridgeshire-based Glebe House, announced their decision to close the site in June after concerns were raised by Ofsted in 2023.

They previously suspended its services from the end of November 2023 due to the findings.

The inspectorate found “widespread shortfalls in management” at the home including concerns around a lack of records relating to their oversight and decision making.

This meant “leaders and managers did not have the full information” about incidents at the home. 

An internal investigation “following a serious incident” in July 2023 found that “safeguarding practice had not been good enough for a number of months”.
