Future of key Department for Education quangos remains in the balance

Decisions over the future of the Children's Workforce Development Council, the Office of the Children's Commissioner and the National College for Leadership of Schools and Children's Services have been deferred until later this year, the Cabinet Office has announced.

In the list of non-departmental public bodies (NDPB) released today, the Cabinet Office revealed that a number of quangos that fall under the remit of the Department for Education are still under review. The future of the Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service (Cafcass) will be determined by the family justice review in 2011.

The decision to scrap the General Teaching Council and the Qualifications and Curriculum Development Agency, announced earlier this year, has been confirmed. A leaked Cabinet Office document last month revealed that the Independent Advisory Group on Teenage Pregnancy is also to be scrapped a decision that has been rubberstamped in today’s document.
