The Department for Education said the funding will be rolled out to local authorities in England based on anticipated need and to plug existing gaps in childcare provision.
An additional £100m of capital funding will be used to support early years providers to increase existing provision to enable them to create more places to deliver the expanded government-funded childcare offer from 2024.
In addition, £289m will be allocated to councils to create more wraparound care to allow all primary school children to access provision between 8am and 6pm by 2026. The DfE has published a guide for local authorities on how to spend the money.
