Fraser has been a YJB board member since January 2018, during which time he has led the non-departmental public body’s work on understanding and tackling racial disproportionality in the youth justice system.

He replaces former government adviser Charlie Taylor, who stepped down in March after three years as YJB chair following his announcement last September that he would not be reapplying for the role.

Fraser – whose appointment is for an initial three-year period – spent 32 years in the police force in London and the West Midlands, rising to the rank of superintendent. He is also chair of Employability UK, a trustee of Sport Birmingham and an ambassador for Clean Sheet UK.
