Festival of participation for children in Wales

Children and young people in Wales will be able to design their own research projects at an event this week to commemorate Wales' first children's commissioner.

The Children's Festival of Participation, which takes place in Cardiff on Wednesday, is being organised by Cardiff University, the children's commissioner for Wales and Children in Wales in memory of Wales' first children's commissioner Peter Clarke, who died in 2007.

Exhibitors will deliver the results of research about children and young people in the form of games, quizzes, slideshows and videos.

Sean O'Neill, policy director at Children in Wales, said: "This event will not only see young people having an opportunity to learn more about the research currently being undertaken, but also being given a chance to contribute and inform this important work."

Children's commissioner for Wales, Keith Towler, launched a redesigned website last week to coincide with his first anniversary in the post. The new site contains an area for children to put forward their views, interactive games, news and the commissioner's blog.

Towler said: "I wanted to take information to young people where they see it and to reach out to them in a dynamic and safe way. Young people will now be able to interact with my office via Bebo."
