Feedback sought on plans to overhaul inspection of adoption services

1 min read Social Care Fostering and adoption
Ofsted inspectors are to canvas the views of adopted children and their birth and adoptive families, under plans to overhaul the scrutiny of adoption support agencies.

The proposals form part of a consultation on a new framework for inspections due to launch in September.

The revised inspections will focus on the views and experiences of service users, with an emphasis on assessing the quality of support on offer from agencies.

As part of this, Ofsted is considering introducing a new system to allow people to submit comments on the service they receive from an adoption support agency at any time, regardless of whether an inspection is ongoing. The watchdog would then take these comments into account at the next inspection of any agency.

More broadly, inspections will be based on fewer judgments and will give agencies less notice of a visit from the watchdog.
