Fathers to walk 300 miles in memory of young daughters lost to suicide

Three fathers who each lost a young daughter to suicide are set to trek 300 miles to raise awareness of prevention and support for young people struggling with mental health issues.

Andy Airey from Cumbria, Mike Palmer from Greater Manchester and Tim Owen from Norfolk will take on the challenge in support of charity Papyrus Prevention of Young Suicide.

They will set off from Cumbria on 9 October, walking through South Lakeland and Lancashire to Mike Palmer’s home in Greater Manchester before visiting Cheshire, Staffordshire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire before arriving at Tim’s family home in King’s Lynn. 

Andy lost his daughter Sophie to suicide in 2018 when she was 29 years old while Mike’s 17-year-old daughter Beth and Tim’s 19-year-old daughter Emily both died in March 2020.
