
An online petition, started by the parents of deaf children who attend Hamilton Lodge School and College in Brighton, describes “the diminishing number of specialist schools, resource provisions and units for deaf children” as “wholly unfair and unacceptable”.
It highlights the planned closure of the setting, which teaches in British Sign Language (BSL), next summer due to declining pupil numbers.
The closure was announced last month in a statement from trustees of the Hamilton Lodge Trust.
“Children thrive in an environment where they are surrounded by staff and classmates with whom they can communicate, and risk having their lives thrown into turmoil by closures.
