Education leaders call for inspection reform

Careers Education
The Association of School and College Leaders (ASCL) has said the inspection system in England is biased towards institutions in affluent areas.

In a policy paper the ASCL called for the inspectorate, Ofsted, to develop a more robust system that gives credit for progress in difficult circumstances.

John Dunford, the general secretary of the association, said: “ASCL’s analsyis of inspection results shows clearly that it is far less likely for a school’s leadership and management to be judged outstanding if the school is in a challenging area.

“This suggests that inspection does not take place on level playing field. Schools in affluent areas have a built in advantage.”
