In a policy paper the ASCL called for the inspectorate, Ofsted, to develop a more robust system that gives credit for progress in difficult circumstances.
John Dunford, the general secretary of the association, said: “ASCL’s analsyis of inspection results shows clearly that it is far less likely for a school’s leadership and management to be judged outstanding if the school is in a challenging area.
“This suggests that inspection does not take place on level playing field. Schools in affluent areas have a built in advantage.”
