A monitoring visit, carried out by inspectors in December last year, revealed an “improvement in the quality of practice for children and families in receipt of services”.

Inspectors highlighted the creation of a new multi-agency safeguarding hub (MASH) following criticism of the council’s safeguarding practice before the pandemic.

The new hub means “children and families benefit from social workers responding to new contacts promptly within prescribed timescales”, a letter to council leaders from Ofsted states.

It also praises the council’s work to deliver services to the most vulnerable children and families during three national lockdowns and work to improve social workers' understanding of the needs of individual children.
