DfE threatened with internal review over failure to share membership of expert group

Children’s rights campaigners are calling for an internal government review over the Department for Education’s failure to share details on the membership of an expert group set up to oversee standards and regulations linked to settings for looked-after children.

Responding to a Freedom of Information (FOI) request sent to DfE by children’s rights charity Article 39 last month, ministers revealed the terms of reference for the group which has been set up to “shape standards of care” which are applicable to all settings including supported accommodation for 16- and 17-year-olds in care.

The document also states that the groups will “advise on supporting guidance that will sit alongside regulations and explain in greater detail how the regulations should be interpreted and applied in practice”.
