DfE launches website ahead of tax-free childcare launch

2 mins read Early Years
The government's tax-free childcare scheme will officially get under way on 28 April, with parents able to pre-register through a new website dedicated to childcare entitlements, the Department for Education has announced.

From next month parents of children under the age of two will be able to access the tax-free childcare scheme, whereby the government tops up £2 for every £8 parents pay into it. By the end of the year the scheme will be available to all eligible parents of children under the age of 12, or under 17 if disabled.

Parents are now able to pre-register through the newly created Childcare Choices website, which also features information and advice on September's launch of 30 hours of free childcare for three- and four-year-olds, childcare vouchers and Universal Credit.

This also includes a childcare calculator for parents so they can compare childcare offers and available support for their family.

National Day Nurseries Association chief executive Purnima Tanuku welcomed the introduction of the tax-free childcare scheme as being "a particular boost for those who have been unable to access employer-based vouchers".
