Development: Inquiry to examine modern childhood

Children, parents, experts and members of the general public are being urged to say what they think makes a good childhood as part of the UK's first independent national inquiry into childhood.

The Children's Society launched its Good Childhood Inquiry yesterday (19September), which will bring together an independent panel of experts, including England's children's commissioner Al Aynsley-Green. Dr RowanWilliams, the Archbishop of Canterbury, is the patron of theinquiry.

The call for evidence comes amid increasing concerns about modernchildhood.

Research shows that children and young people suffer more mental andphysical ill-health than in other European countries.

Evidence can be submitted until 13 November at www.goodchildhood.org.uk.
