The initiative has been launched by safeguarding partnerships across Sussex, involving the NSPCC, Sussex Police and three councils in the area, amid fears that child abuse and neglect is being left undetected during lockdown, as more families stay indoors.

The training is free until the end of March and is aimed at any professional routinely calling or visiting homes. This includes postal workers, delivery drivers, those carrying out repairs and council workers.

The councils involved are Brighton and Hove, West Sussex and East Sussex.

According to the NSPCC, child abuse concerns in the south east of England have soared amid lockdown, with the number of referrals from the charity’s helpline to local councils rising by 81 per cent.
