
Nearly 60 per cent of young voters turned out in the general election, according to the British election study. Figures seen by Sky News suggest 58 per cent of 18- to 24-years-olds turned out to vote yesterday, six per cent more than 2010.
A school has been criticised by parents for publicaly ranking its GCSE students on academic ability days before the start of exams, BBC News reports. Ashington High School and Sports College in Northumberland wanted its pupils to know their relative ability before their exams, which has resulted in complaints from more than 40 parents.
Gay relationships should be taught by teachers in all aspects of school life, the Telegraph reports. Speaking at the Boarding Schools Association conference, Elly Barnes, a lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender school advisor, told boarding school head teachers they should be comfortable using the words “gay” and "lesbian” around students and gay relationships should be made visible.
A 17-year-old shop assistant has quit her job after suffering a humiliating search of her bra in front of colleagues and customers, the Daily Mail reports. Naomi Scott quit her job at Poundland in Borehamwood after being asked if she had hidden anything in her bra, claiming she had to prove her innocence by shaking it out.
A report in 2006 warned police that they were allowing Asian ringleaders of suspected grooming gangs to “act with seeming impunity” in South Yorkshire, the Rotherham Star reports. Released in a Freedom of Information request, the report warned that Asian men were “undoubtedly the most significant group to be associated with sexual exploitation”.
