
An early intervention academy for police leaders has been launched by the Early Intervention Foundation. The academy will bring together police leaders to share their ideas and develop practical plans on how to work with other agencies to prevent crime at the earliest opportunity.
Birmingham City Council has failed to properly assess more than 300 young people identified as being at risk of child sexual exploitation (CSE). The Birmingham Mail reports that 380 potential CSE victims were identified in April but so far only 79 have been officially “risk rated”.
Prime Minister David Cameron has told pornography websites to restrict access to children or face closure. The Guardian reports that the government will launch a consultation in the autumn to seek views on how best to introduce measures to further restrict under-18s’ access to pornographic websites.
Plans to privatise Cornwall’s children’s health services have been scrapped following a devolution deal. The West Briton reports that 23 services provided by the council and health trusts were to be put out to tender but the plans have been halted because the government agreed to give greater devolutionary powers to the county earlier this month.
The UK should provide more specialist services for children who have been trafficked, a report by the US State Department has said. Charity Ecpat UK has called on government to ensure it provides sufficient training and resources to local authorities in order to protect children and ensure they have access to the specialist support they require.
