Education Secretary Nicky Morgan backs controversial Ofsted inspection; campaigners issue warning about increasing sugar content in children's cereals; and government figures reveal extent of child sex offenders avoiding prison, all in the news today.

Education Secretary Nicky Morgan has backed Ofsted over an inspection where pupils at a Christian school were quizzed about gay and bisexual people. The Daily Mail reports that Morgan said she was “unapologetic” for her decision to stand by Ofsted despite a number complaints being made against the inspectorate for asking the "inappropriate" questions.

 

Campaigners have warned that the amount of sugar in some cereals favoured by children is equivalent to the amount contained in seven and a half chocolate fingers. According to ITV News, Action for Sugar claims that there is more sugar in cereal now than in 2012, with one brand’s sugar content showing an 18 per cent increase.
